FINAL Product

After all the hard work, and editing, and photo-shopping, and re-writing, and correcting spelling mistakes etc. I finally managed to complete my Music Magazine. Below is my Front Cover, Contents Page and also my Double Page Spread (interview page)...Take a look and let me know what you think:

Final Masthead

After giving much thought to the title of my magazine I chose to use the word "WRAP"
I used musical notes for the letter 'W' to symbolise the "music" part of my magazine.
I used the word "WRAP" due to the fact that quite often in the show biz world they say "al right guys that a Wrap" which is also why my tag line 'it's a rap' because he has the stage bit to it, and also has the word 'rap' which is the genre of my magazine.
My 'W' isn't in line with the 'RAP' part of my title, reason being 'WRAP' and 'RAP' are two different words, So my magazine is called 'WRAP' with or without the 'W' the 'W' is placed slightly at an angle to symbolise a complete' wrap up' to show my magazine has a 'wrap up' of everything inside of it.

Below I have shown both my titles, in Blue and Red, but RED is the final one I have gone with using because I preffered it, rather then the blue one:

This is the Blue title, as you can very well see it doesn't exactly grab your attention, and if it was sitting in a magazine rack, it wouldn't be the first magazine you see, and it is rather dull and not very interesting, also maybe because all the letters are lower case letters apart from the 'W' it doesn't stand out very well as 'The Title'.

This is the FINAL Title for my magazine, as you can see it has been improved, the colour is brighter and a lot more appealing towards the younger generation, who my magazine is targeted at. The whole title is also all in upper-case letters and so grabs your attention straight away. This, I believe is a much better masthead and I am very pleased with it.

My Evaluation

Below is my evaluation, which I presented to my class:

Constructing the interview page (double page spread)

Here is a step by step constructing of my double page spread:

Constructing the Contents Page

Here is a step by stem construction of my contents page:

Constructing the Front Cover

Here is a step by step construction of my fornt cover:

The Change

Initially I planed to make my magazine Blue and Orange, when constructed on screen, I didn't like it and so I just made my magazine blue.
I then found out that magazines are better and attract more attention when they are red, I thought I would step away from the obvious and so wanted to keep it blue, but I was forced to change it once I saw that my magazine looked much better when it was red.
Here is a slideshow showing my blue magazine and also showing my red magaine, now you decide which one you think is better.

Flat plan evaluation

Below is a slide show of my flat plan evaluation, It shows how I want my agazine to look and, why I chose to do certain things regarding the look of my magazine.

My interview

Here is a write up of the interview I have taken:

Gabriella Valentina is UK’s newest stars; she’s gone from the girl next door to UK’s most talked about female artist. We were lucky enough to get the first exclusive interview with the upcoming star. Gabby was first discovered on YouTube by Red Bed Records - I’m sure she’s happy her friends put that video up now.

This talented star is only 18 years of age and she wants to study Accounting at Uni. Not just a pretty face with an amazing voice, she has brains too.
Let’s find out what she has to say about her brilliant success.
Hi Gabriella, how are you doing?
Hey there, I’m doing great, and please call me Gabby it sounds way better
(Laughs) Why? Don’t you like the name Gabriella?
I prefer Gabby; Gabriella sounds so formal, only my teachers call me Gabriella.
That’s right, you’re still studying. How are you copying with the fame, success, and on top of all that the stress of exams and Uni?
I love studying. [Pause] I just sounded like a nerd, (laughs) I enjoy studying I always have, and it’s true what they say, your best days are in Uni.
So what are your thoughts about the future, Uni or singing, or both?
I have always wanted to have a degree and see that proud smile on my parent’s faces and feel a sense of accomplishment in myself. But the truth it you go to Uni to gain a career, but I have just got a career in singing, luckily enough, so I guess we will have to see.
Now you’re on tour, you must have no time for a boyfriend in your life?
You’re right I don’t. It’s sad but the moment you get on stage and hear the fans screaming, all your worries seem to disappear and you want to give the best you’ve got. Life’s pretty unpredictable right now, but my friends and family help me to stand my ground. I don’t know what I’d do without them!
Did you ever think you would become such a well known singer, and such a great role model for your younger’s?
I never even dreamt of it; if someone said two months ago that I would be working with Chris brown in making an album I would have laughed. This would have probably never have happened if my friends and I didn’t have that karaoke night and one of them decided to upload the video on YouTube - I begged her to take it down! Imagine if she had none of this would have happened. Music truly is my everything. I have always loved it.
So, your first album, excited? What was it like working with the amazing Chris Brown?
It was absolutely amazing, I loved every bit of it, and he is so amazing and so sweet, he helped so much; I never ever thought I would be singing alongside him. He is the best mentor ever.
How does it feel being in the music industry?
This is industry is a pretty feisty one, it’s all about survival of the fittest. It’s me against the worlds.
Any memorable moments working with Chirs Brown, is he an actual Diva?
No No No he is sooo sweet; he was late almost every time though (laughs) Bless. Every time I worked with him was memorable, the one I will never forget will be the first time I met him, let’s just say I was in shock and couldn’t help but stare for around about 5 minutes I’d say.
What’s your philosophy in life, what do you aim to achieve?
Well, I believe you should give it your all, in whatever you do, don’t let anyone put you down. Make your haters your motivators. Someone once told me, ‘Whatever the mind can conceive and believe… it can achieve’, which inspired me. Another thing I’d like to say for all the younger children with dreams and ambitions, don’t give up. If you really want something you will get it. Just wait, your time will come.
Those are some wise words, thank you for sharing them with us. So any plans for the future? What do you think 2012 will bring for you or rather what would you like it to bring for you?
Well I’d like to work with Rihanna she is well and truly my inspiration and hopefully I will be making more songs and maybe release another album, who knows. All I know is I want to be number one baby! (Laughs)
(Laughs) Oh, well I will definitely be looking forward to that! Congratulations on being number one for the past two weeks - I hope your success continues.

Double page spread

I analysed a double page spread in order to understand how interviews are set out and why they are done this way, It made me realise that i need to keep in mind the eye contact of my model and how and where I set my picture to make the interview readable and attractive.
I also read through the interview to get an idea of what sort of questions I could ask and how I could make my interview page (double page spread) maybe look different or what similarities I would like to keep when setting my magazine out.

Results for the Questionnaire

http://www.slideshare.net/SabrinaSiddiqi/questtiopnnaire-results

Here are the results to my questionnaire, which I made into a bar chart and put them all into a power point.
After conducting this questionnaire I noticed that many people listened to hip hop and R&B and so I decided to make that my main genre, I also asked what colour scheme I should do and many people chose Blue and Black, I thought of adding a bit of White to the colour scheme so it doesn't look too dull and boring.
The targeted audience for my magazine is mainly 15-21 year olds who are either in education which would be either college or University and who may or may not have part tie or full time jobs.

My Questionnaire

Our next task was to design a Questionnaire in order to understand our audience better, and understand what they wanted and looked for when purchasing their music magazines. After doing this questionnaire I would be able to decide what colour scheme my audience would enjoy seeing in my magazine, and also which genre of music would be best for my targeted audience.

Analysing RWD magazine

RWD magazine is also a very famous magazine amongst the older generation, aimed for people of the age of 16 and above till about 21, for children studying in college and university etc. We know this by looking at the cover page, it is neatly laid out and there isn't too much going on which would suggest the audience is of an older and more mature or sophisticated class. NME doesn't have to much of a colour scheme, the magazine is identified by the Masthead. It is always the same, “RWD” is short for rewind and the magazine has very cleverly played with the word to produce an interesting, famously recognised magazine. The fonts of the magazine are all the same, apart from the Masthead, the reason they have done this is too make the Masthead stand out, and look different, and the reason everything else is in the same font is because it makes it look neater and goes back to my point on the audience it has attracted for the mature and more sophisticated look.

Analysing NME magazine

NME’s colour scheme is: red, white and black, their title is always red, NME target their audience at an age range of 16-19 year olds, but younger audience also read this magazine and there isn’t anything inappropriate in the magazine to suggest otherwise. The price for NME magazine is usually £2.20, it seems to be a little hight for the audience they are attracting, seeing as they would be studying at school or college and so may not have too much money to spend on magazines but because it is for a specific genre of music, fans of that genre will be willing to spend that much on the magazine.

Analysing RWD and NME magazine

I analysed the front cover of two very different magazine, I analysed two front covers of RWD magazine and two front covers of NME magazine. They both target completely different music genres and have totally different colour schemes, but I thought it would be best to analyse two different types of magazine to see how many similarities or differences both process
.

Top Of The Pops-Research

A summary of what is written on the PowerPoint presentation below:

Target Audience:
Top of the Pops magazine is aimed at a younger generation for girls usually aged around 11-15, it is an extremely well known magazine because it is a follow on from the show TopOfThePops that use to come on channel one. Their audience is targeted at a younger generation which is why they have chosen the colors: yellow, pink, white, purple and blue. These natural, calm colors represent a sense of innocence and purity which helps the choice of the audience. The language choice used is very child like “SNOG” is used at a young age children at the age of 16 and above would not use words such as “SNOG”, they have also used text talk such as “OMG”, the text in the front also sysmbolises that the magazine is aimed at a young generation of readers, the title of the magazine isn’t too formal or strict, its bubbly and bright (yellow) with a thin outline (pink) to reach out and grab the attention of young females.

Double Page Spread:
The interview page was on the new Disney movie “Camp Rock” which stars the three brothers “Jonas Brothers”. There is a whole page dedicated for their image and even a bit of the second page is of them too, they were also at the front of the magazine which shows they are the main focus. The colors are yellow and pink 9girly) and there is a picture of a boy band which attracts their main audience, this all compliments what the magazine are going for and who they have targeted.

After researching how much effort is gone into producing a magazine even if it is for the younger generation, I have realized it is extremely important to take into account everything when coming up with my own magazine, I would have to think about the age 9it is targeted at and from there I would be able to use appropriate language according to that, etc.

Top Of The Pops-The Magazine

The magazine me and my partner were assigned to do stuck to a consistent colour scheme. The usual colours used in this magazine are bright and colourful, just like the title colours: yellow, pink, white. The front page is always bright and consists of many different colours, this magazine is aimed at the younger teenage generation, hence the chosen colours.

Generally Top Of the Pop have the same layout for ll their magazines and the same colour schemes run throughout the magazine, but the front cover is always bright because it is aimed at the youger generation, who appreciate eye catching things.
